Thread sale
Ducking in here quickly to mention that I have put a number of lots of linen lacemaking thread up on my secondary instagram sale account @lagrossetoiledeux
All of the hanks of thread up there came from a now-retired dealer who in turn acquired them from a obsessive collector who had to downsize as she was in her eighties and couldn’t manage her household any more. They all date from before the 1950’s, many of them are 1920’s, and they came from the atelier of a working lacemaker. Or perhaps a guild, given the quantity. I took everything on offer, knowing I would never come across the like again. Many of the boxes I bought were still in their original packaging, some of which I will eventually put on my site. But there were many small boxes of thread that had been unpackaged and then skeing up read to wind onto lacemaking bobbins, and it is these which are up on my sale account, at a greatly reduced price. There are lots with huge skeins of almost half a kilo each, there are small lots with a range of finer threads in different gauges, there are even three packets of skeins that have never been opened (although one packet already sold).
This thread is ideal for stitching, bookbinding, making cords, and, if you get enough of it, weaving. You could also…make lace out of it. Almost of it is Belgian - I know because the hanks that still have their packaging all say finest Belgian linen thread. The exception is the packaged thread mentioned above which is from Lille (it says so on the label), on the French-Belgian border, a city which once had a number of linen thread manufacturers. There is a range of different natural colours as well as some cream, and many different gauges and qualities, including some that is almost raw. If anyone wants some raw linen fibre, I have some of that too, message me from that account @lagrossetoiledeux . Have a lovely day :)

Oh, lovely! I'd love to get flax fibre from you. I'm not using Instagram anymore. Is there another way to connect and purchase? (I may have an email address for you- I'll check)
Thanks,
Andrea
